Attention:

Please bring a gift card for the raffle tree fundraiser of $25 value.  This fundraiser will support our required matching funds for our district grant.  Raffle tickets will be sold $5 for one or $20 for five.  We ask that each member sell $100 worth of tickets.  The raffle tree award to our winner will be approximately $300 worth of gift cards to local establishments.  The winner will be chosen the Monday meeting after the Partners in Wine event.  The club has received the district funding in the amount of $1,266 to be matched by the club.

It's going to be another great Rotary Year!

Business Meeting August 3, 2026

We are wishing our dear friend and Rotarian, Jim Gilman, prayers for healing.  He continues to have significant back issues and facing a risky and complicated surgery.  He is getting a second opinion in Iowa City.  Everyone hopes to see him back at Rotary very soon.  Get well Jim!  We miss you!

Randy confirmed that our John Deere Classic funds of $3,648.78 were received.  We had 68 shifts, versus 64 last year.  That is about $53.66 per shift.

Please pay your quarterly dues, if not completed already.  Payment on your behalf has already been sent to Rotary International.  Invoices were emailed last month.  Please notify Sue if you would like it emailed again.

August 16th is our next bingo day at Hope Creek, 2-3 pm.  Kathy needs a replacement so she can attend the birthday of her husband's last living relative, Aunt Bev.

September 21st we are moving our meeting to Harold's Landing to attend Rockin' the River.  Troy Rangel & Friends will be playing.  Plan on arriving by 5:30 that evening so we can share our meal, as normal.  The event has been organized by our very own Nathan Berthoud!  It would be a great day to celebrate the fifth element of the four-way test.  Wear your Rotary gear!

Sue talked about plans for supporting the LevelUp program promoted by Past District Governor Melissa McCormick.  It would be great to do something even though her year is done.  Sue volunteered to connect with Boys and Girls Club to select at least 5 or 6 students to participate.  We selected a tentative date of September 28th  We would meet with students that day in lieu of our meeting.  Agenda would be guidance on entering the job market and interview skills.  Sue proposed contacting Dress for Success to acquire an outfit for the students, per a conversation with member, Nathan Berthoud.  He suggested it would be great to have an all inclusive experience, including an outfit suitable for an interview.

We have an open position for Secretary.  The position maintains membership records, minutes for the club, board, and committee meetings. Our club invoice is based on the number of members in Rotary's database for your club as of 1 July and 1 January. Rotary International sends the club invoice by email and mail.  Records are updated on rotary.org and our club admin system called ClubRunner.  The secretary collaborates with the club treasurer for semi-annual member counts used for Rotary International dues invoices.

They manage club correspondence, answer emails, and send out official event notices. The secretary keeps meeting materials organized, including name badges and club historical records. Additionally, they serve as an active member of the club board of directors and the club administration committee.  They may be tasked with reporting club information to Rotary International that is not present on ClubRunner or Rotary.org.

The secretary shares meeting minutes, happy dollar statements, and speaker highlights with the individual managing the weekly bulletin/newsletter so information can be included each week on the bulletin/newsletter.

We have a related position in public image.  This involves our communication with the community and beyond.  The club was awarded Public Image recognition for our efforts last year.  This includes an active and updated website (linked to ClubRunner), active Facebook page (currently managed by Marcy and Sue), management to other social media (Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok), management of the club bulletin/newsletter (Sue managing), published stories in newspaper/radio/television, banners displayed at meetings or road signs or project identifiers, provide club brochures or presentations, take courses for public image on rotary.org learning center, monitor the club logo for RI branding requirements.

Happy Dollars of the Week

Andy had a positive teaser from his Texas daughter.  She asked about the furniture in the garage.  Maybe soon it will be empty!

John had a sad dollar for missing Bill's induction. Kids and grands went to their lake cabin.  They all did a toast on the 3rd to his brother at noon.  They missed a big storm.  He's thankful for the newsletter and meeting notes and his daughter who is organizing his belongings.

Paul is happy about lower humidity today because he hates it.

Terry is a money-wise accountant.  He is happy about buying gas in Iowa and restaurants that don't charge a fee.  He's happy we have happy dollars and not fines, and sunshine in the morning.  The Fever lost by 8 points to the top team.

Kathy was happy to swim today with her granddaughter.  She has had less reading time this summer and hopes to get more in the coming months.

Christie planted perennials last year and they came back.  She has attracted some butterflies.

Nathan was happy that is was “fall-ish” today.

Bill was happy about visitors from Baraboo Wisconsin and glad the storms they had were not fatal.

Randy is just happy to have George back.

Sue is happy to be attending the Mississippi Valley Fair Concerts this week.

Aidan was happy about the performance of a horse he bet on.  His fiance's embassy visit is August 31st and she may be able to come to the US early September.

George had a sad dollar because his granddaughter had to leave.
